Position Description 

As the Game Host and Emcee for Missouri Reign and AFC Columbia, you will be a driving force behind the match day experience. You will create an energetic and welcoming environment, engage with supporters, recognize sponsors, lead promotions, make important announcements, and help keep each event organized and on schedule.

This role will also serve as the sideline interviewer, conducting pregame, halftime, and postgame interviews with players, coaches, sponsors, and special guests. You will work closely with the event management, broadcast, media, and coaching teams to ensure every match provides a professional and memorable experience for our supporters.

We are looking for someone who is confident, enthusiastic, dependable, comfortable speaking in front of a crowd, and able to think quickly in a live event environment.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:


  1. Primary Duties:

    • Serve as the primary sideline voice and host for Missouri Reign and AFC Columbia home matches.

    • Sideline interviews with coaches, players, league officials etc.

    • Create an energetic, welcoming, and professional environment for supporters, players, sponsors, and guests.

    • Guide the match day experience through announcements, promotions, contests, interviews, and supporter engagement.

    • Represent both programs positively and professionally throughout each event.

  2. Sideline Interviews:

    • Serve as the primary sideline interviewer during pregame, halftime, and postgame coverage when requested.

    • Conduct interviews with players, coaches, staff members, sponsors, supporters, and special guests.

    • Prepare thoughtful questions in advance while remaining comfortable asking appropriate follow up questions.

    • Work with the coaching, broadcast, and media teams to identify interview subjects and topics.

    • Remain aware of the match result, player emotions, injuries, and other circumstances that may affect an interview.

    • Keep interviews professional, focused, engaging, and appropriate for the situation.

    • Communicate clearly and confidently while allowing the interview subject to remain the focus.

    • Assist with live interviews for broadcasts, social media, website content, and promotional projects.

    • Confirm player and coach availability before approaching them for an interview.

    • Respect requests for privacy and avoid questions involving confidential team matters, injuries, or personal information unless approved.

    • Help provide edited interview clips or recorded content to the social media and broadcast teams when needed.

  3. Pregame Preparation:

    • Arrive early for home matches to review the event schedule, announcements, promotional activities, and match day responsibilities.

    • Participate in a pregame meeting with event staff to confirm timing, responsibilities, and any special instructions.

    • Review team rosters, starting lineups, player names, pronunciations, sponsors, and special recognitions.

    • Test microphones and other necessary equipment before gates open.

    • Communicate any questions or concerns to the appropriate staff member before the event begins.

  4. Match Day Announcements:

    • Welcome supporters and provide important information before, during, and after the match.

    • Coordinate with in P/A announcer to deliver clear and accurate safety, facility, weather, and emergency announcements when needed.

    • Maintain an appropriate tone during injuries, delays, or other sensitive situations.

    • Follow the established match schedule without interfering with play or official communication.

  5. Crowd Engagement:

    • Build energy and encourage supporter participation throughout the event.

    • Lead chants, contests, giveaways, and other interactive activities.

    • Engage appropriately with supporters of all ages.

    • Adjust energy and delivery based on the moment, crowd response, and flow of the match.

    • Help create a memorable experience that encourages supporters to return.

  6. Sponsor Recognition:

    • Deliver accurate sponsor announcements and promotional messages according to partnership agreements.

    • Coordinate with event staff to ensure sponsor reads occur at the correct times.

    • Become familiar with sponsor names, services, and pronunciation before each event.

    • Assist with sponsored contests, giveaways, halftime activities, and other promotional elements.

    • Maintain professionalism and enthusiasm during every sponsor recognition.

  7. Event Promotions and Activities:

    • Introduce and help conduct pregame, halftime, and postgame activities.

    • Host supporter contests, youth activities, special recognitions, and community presentations.

    • Assist with player, coach, sponsor, and special guest interviews when requested.

    • Promote upcoming matches, ticket opportunities, merchandise, supporter events, and community initiatives.

    • Work with event staff to keep activities organized and on schedule.

  8. Script Preparation and Delivery:

    • Review and prepare from the approved match day script before each event, and make sure the P/A announcer gets it.

    • Work with team leadership and event staff to update scripts with current information.

    • Ensure all sponsors have well thought out and approved announcements, and special events are included.

    • Remain flexible and prepared to make approved adjustments during the event.

    • Avoid unapproved comments, inappropriate jokes, or statements that could negatively represent either program.

  9. Team Collaboration:

    • Communicate regularly with team leadership, event management, media staff, broadcasters, and game operations personnel.

    • Follow cues from the designated event coordinator throughout the match.

    • Coordinate with the music and public address teams to maintain smooth transitions between announcements and entertainment.

    • Provide feedback after matches regarding timing, crowd engagement, and opportunities to improve the supporter experience.

    • Assist with special hosting requests for supporter events, clinics, watch parties, and community appearances.

  10. Situational Awareness:

    • Remain focused on the match, event schedule, and surrounding activities at all times.

    • Recognize when announcements should be delayed because of injuries, active play, official communication, or other sensitive moments.

    • Respond calmly and professionally to schedule changes, technical problems, weather delays, and unexpected situations.

    • Communicate quickly with event staff when clarification or assistance is needed.

    • Prioritize accuracy and professionalism over unnecessary commentary.

Qualifications

- Be present, prepared, focused, energetic, and punctual for every assigned event.
- Maintain a professional appearance and follow team branding or dress expectations.
- Treat players, coaches, officials, staff members, sponsors, and supporters with respect.
- Learn and correctly pronounce player, coach, sponsor, and guest names.
- Understand that the Game Host and Emcee directly influences the public image of both programs.
- Maintain consistent availability and communicate scheduling conflicts well in advance.
